OC H&I
Orange County Hospitals & Institutions Committee
To carry the message of Alcoholics Anonymous® to the alcoholic who is confined in a hospital or institution.
About Us
To carry the message of Alcoholics Anonymous® to the alcoholic who is confined in a hospital or institution.
“Each group has but one primary purpose – to carry its message to the alcoholic who still suffers.” — Fifth Tradition
“AA, as such, ought never be organized; but we may create service boards or committees directly responsible to those they serve.” — Ninth Tradition
Our History
OC H&I traces its roots back to 1942 at San Quentin State Prison, where Warden Clinton Duffy invited Alcoholics Anonymous into the institution after observing how closely alcohol was tied to recidivism. San Quentin Group #1 became the very first H&I group — and the model our committee still follows today: bringing the message of recovery directly to those confined in hospitals and institutions who cannot come to us.
